These procedures are for advanced users.
Some cars have steering problems where it turns sharply on one side and not the other. These instructions teach you how you can fix this problem (please note: this procedure will fix majority of the cars, but not all of them. It is a case of trial and error).
Please note: In performing the procedures below you will void your warranty. We do not take any responsibility for damages directly or indirectly caused by performing your own repairs.
Equipment you will need for this exercise:
- A dab of glue
- A small philips screwdriver.
1. To take off the body by unclipping the front of the car first.
2. Unclip the antennae from the top of the car.
3. To take the top cover off, you need to carefully pry the two clips on either side of the cover. Sometimes I find taking the back wheels off enable you to access the two clips easier.
.
4. Carefully pull out the PCB. There will be wires attached to it so don't pull it too far! The thin wires are very fragile and can break easily.
You will see a screw holding the front cover. Unscrew using a philips screwdriver.
5. You can now unclip the front cover. The two front wheels may fall out. Remember which one was on the left and right.
6. Take out the steering pin, being very careful you do not release the tiny spring in the middle. If you lose this, you will not be able to steer anymore! (Good news: I do have spare parts of these for sale if you do lose one).
7. The round metal in the front is the magnet. This controls whether the car moves left or right. If your car does sharp turns to the left, slide the magnet to the left a small fraction. If the car does sharp turns to the right, then slide the magnet to the right a small fraction.
8. The next step is very fiddly. Re-assemble the front. The two wheels must slot in the correct holes as illustrated below. The steering pin needs to be in place to help hold the two wheels. Also the spring needs to be between the white adjustable rod.
To fit the cover back on, hook the clips on first then click in the rest. It is not easy to refit the wheel rods into the top cover, but to help, hold the wheels straight with your thumb and finger.
9. Before we re-assemble the rest of the car, it's best to test it first. If you had taken off the back wheels, clip them back on. Place the PCB board back on top. Charge the car as is and test on the floor. If it still pulls too much on one side, repeat steps 5-9 again until it's right.
Once you are happy with the steering, dab a little glue around the plastic and magnet to hold it in place. Leave to dry before you re-assemble the car.10. The last step is to re-assemble the car and have fun to relax after pulling the car apart!
